what Hills homes usually need
A lot of the Hills was built from the 1980s onwards: brick veneer and rendered homes on generous blocks, with double-height entries, open stairwells and long runs of eaves and fascia. Inside, the hard part is rarely the walls. It is the void above the stairs, the ceilings at five or six metres, and the trim that has been touched up so many times it no longer matches.
In the newer estates around Kellyville, Rouse Hill and Box Hill, builder-grade paint is reaching the end of its first life. Render starts to show hairline cracks, and the eaves fade first on the western side. A first repaint done properly, with the cracks filled and the surface sealed, sets the house up for the next ten years.
