what the coast does to paint

Salt settles on every exterior surface within a few kilometres of the water. Paint applied over it does not bond properly, so on the Beaches we wash down before we prepare, not just before we paint. Timber decks, weatherboards and window frames take the worst of the sun, and steel balustrades and gate hardware start to rust at the fixings first.

We choose products made for coastal exposure and say which ones in the quote, by name, so you can see what is going on the house and why.

Coastal humidity finds its way indoors. Bathrooms, laundries and wardrobes on outside walls are where mould turns up first. Painting over it only hides it for a few weeks, so we kill the growth, look for where the moisture is coming from, and then coat with a product designed to resist it coming back. The five-year workmanship guarantee applies here the same as anywhere else in Sydney.
