why we don't print the stars ourselves
Any business can type a five-star review into its own website. That’s precisely why a quote in a box on a painter’s home page persuades nobody, and it’s why the feed above is pulled live from Google rather than retyped by us. We can’t edit it, reorder it, or quietly drop the ones we’d rather you didn’t read.
Google stopped showing star ratings for a business’s reviews of itself in 2019, for the same reason. If you see stars next to a painting company in a search result, they came from a Google Business Profile, not from the company’s website. Ours is linked above — go and read it there instead if you would prefer.
what we do about the ones that aren't five stars
We get them. Every trade does, and a business with a hundred reviews and no criticism in any of them is a business whose reviews are worth nothing. The ones worth reading are the ones where something went wrong, because what you actually want to know isn’t whether a painter can have a perfect job — it is what they do on the day they don’t.
Our answer is the same one that’s written into every quote: if the work we did fails in a way we caused, we come back and fix it. The five-year workmanship guarantee is the formal version of that, and it’s on the quote before you sign it rather than mentioned afterwards.
leaving one yourself
If we have painted for you, a review helps another homeowner more than anything we could write about ourselves — and the specific ones help most. Which suburb, what the job was, whether we turned up when we said we would, and whether the final invoice matched the quote.
If something isn’t right, please tell us before you write it. Not to head off the review — write it either way — but because we’d rather fix the problem than read about it.
